Barbara Behal
Barbara Behal - Biography
Barbara's love for yoga began 10 years ago when her high school offered yoga as a physical education option. From then on she started doing classes outside of school and her interest grew from there. "Self development and healing of any description has always drawn my interest", Barbara explains "And I have explored many techniques. I'm a qualified aromatherapist and masseuse, and have explored many related fields including shiatsu, nutritional healing, ayurvedic ways and energy field work. I even did the hippy thing and lived in an Ashram in Byron for a while before heading off to explore this big wonderful world we live in."
Barbara is extremely excited about Yoga TV. "It's a fantastic idea as it will enable yoga to become accessible to absolutely everyone. It's a great way for people who have been interested in trying yoga, yet have had hesitations because they're worried about being inflexible or insecure in a class, to have a go. Hopefully, this programme will enthuse more people to get up (earlier!), practice yoga and experience for themselves the wonderful benefits."
After completing a 10-day meditation course (Vipassana) two years ago, Barbara started practising Ashtanga yoga daily, and noticed how dramatically different she felt in both body and mind. "My lower back had been a regular nag and as my practice developed, I noticed how much freer I felt within my body, and that my entire posture felt strong and the pains I had been so used to were less frequent and less intense. I also went from being an overemotional drama queen to having a lot more serenity and calmness in life," she confesses.
"Yoga was changing my body and my way of being and I liked it, so I kept doing it. I learned more and became so influenced by all my different teachers that I realised I wanted to teach other people what I knew about yoga. Many courses, books, classes and personal experiences later, the journey is constantly challenging."
Barbara now has a corporate and private yoga teaching business. "It's rewarding to witness people's enthusiasm for change and progression in their practice. To be a co-host on YTV is such an exciting opportunity and I believe it has the ability to help many Australians discover a more balanced, healthier lifestyle," she explains.
